Hemophilia’s impact

Living with hemophilia and finding balance day-to-day

While treatment has evolved significantly in the past few decades, there are still issues that affect people living with hemophilia, and caregivers, in all facets of life. Bleeds, mental health, joint pain, and interruptions to daily life are still key problems that need to be part of the hemophilia care conversation.

Hemophilia patients still experience clinical and subclinical bleeds.
Depending on the dosage and preparation, infusing or injecting prophylaxis may take anywhere from 2 to 50 minutes.
Repeated bleeds can lead to joint damage and over time, mobility loss.
~3 out of 4 people with hemophilia worry about taking trips longer than one week.
Even young adults with hemophilia may experience arthritic pain.
Up to half of adolescents and about one-third of adults have a fear of needles. It's common for people with chronic conditions who may need to infuse or inject.
People with hemophilia A and B may have concerns with infusions causing soreness, bruising, and physical discomfort.

Ongoing research and clinical trials are evaluating alternative investigational treatment approaches in hemophilia.

Take time to check in with yourself and work together with your healthcare team to make the best choices for you.
